[History:] The small continent of his birth was surrounded by an ever thrashing ocean whose roars became the lullaby for those that resided beside it. It was always Inari's belief that the sea protected he and his family from the larger influences of human and minimized the skirmishes that could arise between vagrant groups. It was to this mortal paradise that he and his sister, Inka, were born. Their loving parents and devoted extended family hailed the two as the most precious bundles to be conceived to them. Even if they were not the Alpha Female's own flesh and blood. It had been a necessary endeavor on the part of the Alpha, Kanon, whose esteemed mate was barren, incapable of giving him whelps of their own.
In an act to ensure that their legacy was not wholly doomed to die, the Alpha male requested one of the willing subordinate to grant him a boon. In the months to follow this subordinate female, named Aya, gave birth to two healthy babes who were to be the Prince and Princess of their pack. The group of twenty strong, able-bodied wolves, erupted in chorus for days until their voices were gravely and hoarse from song and excitement. The siblings were cared for, there was a near overabundance of willing patrons who wished to babysit the newborns and it was often left up to the Alpha female to decide who would watch the litter. Their she-wolf leader, Razor, had agreed with her mate on breeding one of the females in their pack, but no despite herself she was bitter about it.
It'd been a shock to her pride to be unable to carry a litter, a vicious stab to her pride when asked if she would mind her mate touching another she-wolf. She had agreed only to please him but in secret she regretted the action. She had the least contact with Aya and her whelps, passing orders through other subordinates to be carried to and fro between the mother and the Alpha female.
Kanon recognized his companion's state and did whatever was in his power to placate her, all in the hopes of having a proper family. The whelps could suckle from three of the packs adult females who had simultaneously began to lactate upon their conception. By Kanon's order the pups were bounced between the dens, the altering scents they acquired would lead to them not knowing that Aya was their birthmother and by the time they opened their eyes they would be greeted with Kanon and Razor instead of of their true dame. Momentarily appeased that the pups took to them as if she had born them from her own belly, Razor warmed up to them.
Wisdom was aplenty for the youths who were forever being pulled aside for stories and tales that bestowed upon them a perspective of the world they lived in. It was Inari who was promptly taken by the notion of other packs. Soft-hearted and kind, he was thoroughly appalled by the stories of war, suffering and famine. Things he could ultimately not stop. As he grew older, so did their pack, loners had ventured to their home and were given asylum among their family until Razor suggested the pack move to larger territory. The idea of setting out of their lovely valley home in pursuit of greater lands was a thrill like no other and Inari took to it immediately. Shy Inka, was not so enthusiastic but had no choice but to do as instructed. Needless to say the packs migration was fraught with danger but surprisingly, the worst to happen to them was the death of two of their elders and a bad wound received from an angry badger.
The new land that they located was yet another paradise, lush, green forest and a few foothills to encase them, the pack fell in love with the territory they'd discovered. Even more wondrous was the neighboring pack that lived nearby. The Leaders of each became good friends and their small dynasty thrived. In the meantime Inari made visits between the lands, conversing with other wolves and learning of the saddening things that happened elsewhere. Not all were as fortunate as they.
Then came the day that Kanon died, Razor too old to lead, decided to pass the duty of leadership to Inari. He had known such a day would arrive but he felt an uneasiness in his heart that he could not ignore. In spite of the gift he'd been given, Inari gave the position and rank to his sister Inka, explaining that he felt there was somewhere he needed to be and that place was not here. Afterwards he set out to follow the nagging feeling that swept him to other, distant lands.
In his search he came across a small pack of ten and stayed with them for nearly a year. The helpful two year old male was infatuated with a female there, Sitka. They were always together but when she confessed that she liked him he took off, embarrassed and unsure of himself. When he finally came to terms with his emotions he returned a month later, come to find the forest that they'd lived in had been burned to the ground and the pack was either dead of scattered. Sadly Inari resumed his quest, knowing in his heart that Sitka was dead but refusing to believe it.
